During the eruption of 79 AD the volcano Vesuvius covered completely the beautiful town of Herculaneum. According to ancient historians the city was close to the sea and was inhabited by very rich people. The excavations of the ancient town have brought to light different well preserved buildings, pieces of furniture, wooden doors and windows and many other objects which are still in good conditions. During the eruption the entire town of Herculaneum disappeared under a liquid pyroclastic flow which preserved most of the organic material.
Visiting the ancient town is really an amazing experience. We can enter the ancient domus, the houses of the roman people, we can see frescoes and mosaics, shops and thermal baths. The archaeological site of Herculaneum is really worth a visit.
